This program provides a framework for social workers and other mental health professionals to effectively serve immigrant and refugee communities. We will learn about the refugee and immigrant experience, and some challenges they face as they seek to rebuild their lives. The role of psychological trauma in many newcomer populations will be emphasized. We will discuss how to recognize and utilize newcomers’ strengths, cultural resources and natural support systems.

  2. How to integrate a multicultural perspective in engagement, assessment, and intervention.
