Clinical Issues

The Social Work Dictionary defines clinical social work as a specialized form of direct social work practice with individuals, groups, and families. NASW has definied clinical social work as the professional application of social work theory and methods of the treatment and prevention of psychosocial dysfunction, disability, or impairment, including emotional and mental disorders. Most professional social workers ageree that clinical social work practice includes emphasis on the person-in-environment perspective.

Almost half the membership of the Massachusetts Chapter reported its major job function was in clinical/direct practice.
