This workshop will examine the impact of trauma on children and adolescents and will equip social workers with strategies to help students overcome barriers that hinder success. Implications for social workers in direct practice, policy, research, and social work education including how to utilize this knowledge to implement social change and improve the social, emotional and educational outcomes of youth will be highlighted. The presentation format will utilize poetry and social media.

Learning Objectives

Participants will learn:

  1. To define trauma and explore the impact of trauma on youth
  2. The importance of building rapport and of creating a caring, consistent relationship with traumatized youth
  3. Intervention strategies and tools to meet the needs of traumatized youth
