Prior to meeting, participants will read:

Discussant: Anna Mancuso, LICSW
with the Boston Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights.

Using the content of the book and the discussant’s expertise, the program will focus on deepening participants’ understanding of the experience of asylum-seekers who have been tortured and/or threatened with torture and its impact on integration into a new culture as well as the professionals and non-professionals around them.

Learning Objectives: (Participants will learn...)

  1. About the experience of asylum-seekers and the psycho-social challenges it creates for integration into a new culture.
  2. The psychological impact on professionals and the family/friends/ others who support asylum-seekers.
  3. Two social work interventions that can be used to provide psycho-social support to this population.
