This conference will bring participants, both beginning and experienced, far beyond "LGBT 101.” We will develop greater expertise to provide psychotherapy services to youth of diverse identities. The speaker will offer a blend of theory and best practices with characteristic insight, candor, and humor. Become part of the living, colorful complexity of clinical work with gender-diverse and sexuality-diverse youth in the 21st century.

Charles Strauss, LICSW is in private practice in Somerville, a facilitator for the Bisexual and Bi-Curious Men’s Group at Fenway Community Health in Boston, Clinical Advisor for the Umbrella Transgender Youth Support Group in Wellesley, and a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).

Learning objectives (participants will learn to...)

  • Describe diverse possibilities beyond the binaries of gay and straight, male or female.
  • Build collaborative relationships with youth, families, and other professionals to support a youth’s healthy development of gender and sexuality.
  • Navigate the subtleties of acting as both a therapist and a gatekeeper for youths who wish to access medical gender transition.
