The 5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) embodies the first substantial change to psychiatric diagnosis in over 30 years. This training focuses on the structural changes of the manual; reviews the additions, deletions, and changes to psychiatric diagnoses specifically focusing on adulthood; and describes the special features of the DSM-5 that are fundamental changes from the DSM IV–TR.

Learning objectives (participants will learn...)

  • About the proposed changes to the structure of the DSM-5 that highlights its chronological arrangement.
  • At least 3 changes to diagnoses in the categories of Trauma, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, and Depression.
  • The new severity rating systems that emphasize degree of dysfunction.
