A growing number of our clients, including seniors and their families, are dealing with vision loss and blindess. Many clinical social workers do not have the expertise to work with these individuals. This program will provide participants with a basic understanding of vision loss and blindness and the resources available for clinicians to use. It will review the impact of gradual vision loss and blindness on individuals and family members, and discuss the clinical implications for working with people who are blind from birth and those who were sighted and then lost their vision.
Participants will learn...
- The differences between blindness from birth and later loss of vision.
- The extensive Vision Rehab services available to clients, especially for elder clients losing their vision.
- The clinical implications and strategies for working with clients with legal blindness and their families.
