Presenter: Dr. Paul Foxman, PhD

Dr. Paul Foxman is Founder and Director of the Center for Anxiety Disorders, a private outpatient practice and therapist-training center in Vermont. He is the author of numerous publications and books on the subject, including Dancing With Fear and The Worried Child. He has over 30 years of professional experience in a variety of settings, including hospitals, community mental health centers, graduate schools, and private practice.

Anxiety in children is increasing at an epidemic rate, affecting students in multiple ways: separation anxiety, panic anxiety, worry, social anxiety and school phobia. These forms of anxiety can result in school refusal, which in its most severe form can result in home-bound students unable to attend or participate fully. In his keynote address, Dr. Paul Foxman will explain why and how anxiety develops in children, how it can drive school refusal, and steps that can be taken to reduce anxiety and make school a more comfortable setting for learning and social interaction.

Presented by NASW-MA Chapter and the 766 Approved Private Schools (maaps)
