The film starts out with a simple question: What is addiction? Kaegan Casey interviewed current and former students of Andover High School over the course of the school year, documenting their stories and getting their answers to that opening question. In 2014, there were over 1,000 opioid-related deaths due to the use of heroin and other opioid-based painkillers across Massachusetts. Essex County had the second greatest number (146) of fatalities. The majority of people living in Andover, one of the more affluent and education-oriented communities in Essex County, however, are unaware of the prevalence of drugs like heroin in their community.
