LICSWs will be Required to Complete Non-Billing Provider Enrollment…eventually.
Wednesday, January 6, 2016
The NASW-MA Chapter has been receiving member questions about rumors related to a new law requiring LICSWs to fill-out “MassHealth Non-Billing Provider Enrollment” forms. This is an important issue for all Massachusetts Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers (LICSWs) ONLY.
After researching this issue thoroughly, here are the facts:
All LICSWs in MA will eventually be required to fill out the MassHealth Non-Billing Provider Enrollment Contract (2 pages) and Application (3 pages). The key word is “eventually.” First the Massachusetts Legislature must pass a law that requires all healthcare providers to complete these Medicare (CMS) forms. The CMS is mandating this, nationwide. MassHealth representatives do not know when it will be signed into law. It is possible it will happen sometime next year, but there are no guarantees, or even guesses, regarding the date.
Therefore, there is NO RUSH to fill out the forms; though there is also NO REASON NOT TO fill them out sooner rather than later. According to MassHealth, once you fill out the forms, you are done and will not have to do so again.
The NASW-MA Chapter will send out more information on this topic in FOCUS and via email blasts as more specifics become available.
MassHealth will be conducting free webinars in 2016 that the chapter will also advertise to NASW members. These articles and webinars will provide more information about filling out these forms and what it means for all LICSWs.
You should also be aware that there will be no cost for this process and it has nothing to do with billing; it is just an administrative requirement.
