Social Action

Your membership in NASW Massachusetts includes a powerful, progressive effort to elevate the social work profession and change laws that negatively impact the people with whom we work.

To bring our social work voice into the state’s policy agenda, NASW-MA:

  • Advocates at the State House supporting bills;
  • Works in coalition with like-minded issue groups to make change;
  • Identifies and endorses candidates who promote social work values to help get them elected;
  • Builds relationships with state agency staff to impact policy and practice.

Dig in! There are lots of resources to acquaint you with NASW’s political work.

The Legislative Process – learn about how a bill is passed and where you can get involved

NASW-MA Legislation – Priority & Supported bills and testimony library

Lobbying 101 – “how to” instructions to be an activist social worker

Advocacy Committees & Shared Interest Groups (SIGs) – open to all NASW-MA members!

LEAD – Legislation, Education & Advocacy Day – NASW’s annual Lobby Day in March

Please get involved and bring your voice to the social work movement! There are many NASW committees and SIGS (Shared Interest Groups) where you can play a role. Too busy? Live far from Boston? You can advocate from home: send emails or letters to legislators, make calls, write testimony, or participate via conference call or “Go To Meeting” on your computer.
