The NASW-MA Legislative Advocacy Committee (LAC) serves as the backbone and the advisory board to all our legislative work. The Committee is open to any interested NASW member – you don’t need political experience or expertise, you’ll learn!
LAC’s first job is to choose policies and bills every two years to focus on in the legislative session. This forms the Legislative Agenda for the Chapter. LAC members follow bills, come to the State House for hearings and lobby meetings when they can, and often stay in contact with their legislators to make sure our bills don’t fall through any cracks.
LAC’s second job is to advise and help with LEAD – the Chapter’s Legislation, Education, and Action Day held in March every year – Social Work Month. Close to 800 social work students and professionals descend on the State House for LEAD – the largest lobby day on Beacon Hill.
JOIN US! All NASW members are welcome to join the Legislative Advocacy Committee. Please contact the chapter office at firstname.lastname@example.org or (617) 227-9635.

Legislative Action Alerts
An ongoing project of the Legislative Advocacy Committee has been to maintain a Legislative Alert Network. Members of this networks agree to establish a relationship with their legislators and to contact them about human service issues on an ongoing basis. NASW-MA Legislative Action Alerts are timely emails that provide details on pending legislation, and contact information for relevant legislators, and sample "cut and paste" texts for your convenience in lobbying.
To receive Legislative Action Alerts via email, please send your name, email address, daytime phone number, and the names of your State Senator and Representative to: email@example.com (Identify your legislators: www.wheredoivotema.com)
