NASW-MA’s 8th annual MLK Forum on Racial Justice will discuss how social workers and their clients can protect and promote voting rights across Massachusetts. Panelists will discuss the current state of voting in Massachusetts and what we can do to remove barriers to voting and improve access to it. Topics include gerrymandering and recent state redistricting, pending state legislation that would increase access to voting, and nonpartisan tools that social workers can use to help their clients register to vote.

Speakers include:

  • Leigh Hardy, LICSW: Leigh is a member of the Provider Circle at Vot-ER. She is a coach for the Vot-ER Civic Health Fellowship and leads the Voting Is Recovery pilot. She practiced clinical social work in MA for 10 years.
  • Joli Sparkman Bayron, MSW, AMS-I
  • Jordan Berg Powers: Jordan is the Executive Director of Mass Alliance, a coalition for political and advocacy organizations that work together to build a progressive Massachusetts. NASW-MA PACE is a member of Mass Alliance.
  • Emily Rodriguez, Pioneer Valley Project

Moderator: Carla B. Monteiro, LCSW, former candidate for Boston City Council At-large
