Welcome to Legislative Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD) 2023 registration!
Every year, NASW-MA organizes LEAD during social work month in March. This year’s theme for social work month is “Social Work Breaks Barriers”. LEAD provides social work students and newer professionals with an opportunity to learn about our shared legislative priorities and to engage in advocacy through direct contact with their legislators. This year, the keynote speaker will be social worker, educator, and state representative Brandy Fluker Oakley (D-Boston) and the lobbying 101 speaker will be macro social worker Kathryn Audette.
The four workshops will focus on the following bills max # of participants for each workshop is 150: Social Work Workforce Bill Healthy Youth Act Treatment, Not Imprisonment Universal Free School Meals
Cost for the event is $10 but several Schools of Social Work are sponsoring LEAD so check-in with your school to see if they have a code for students to use! Event timeline: 9:00 -9:05 am - Everyone enters the zoom room! 9:05 - 9:15 am - Welcome from Our Executive Director 9:15 - 9:45 am - Keynote Speech by Representative Fluker-Oakley 9:45 - 10:25 am - Lobbying 101 with Kate Audette 10:25 - 10:35 am - Screen Break! 10:35-10:40 am - Enter workshop you selected during registration 10:40 - 11:50 am - Panel workshop 11:50 -12:00 pm - Wrap up event and ideally students attend meetings they have set up prior with their legislators.
