Webinar description: This workshop explores the mental health experiences of first-generation U.S. Latine immigrants as they navigate the complexities of assimilation and acculturation. The session covers various acculturation strategies, factors influencing assimilation and integration, and practical recommendations to support mental health and well-being within immigrant communities. CEUs apply to anti-racism (MA), anti-discrimination (MA), and cross-cultural practice (RI).
Identify the four main categories of acculturation strategies: integration, assimilation, separation, and marginalization. Recognize societal and cultural factors that contribute to the assimilation and integration process of first-generation U.S. Latine immigrants. Examine culturally tailored mental health assessment tools to address the unique needs of immigrant individuals.

About the speaker: Ysabel Garcia is a skilled educator, dialogue facilitator, and disruptor of systems of oppression with a bold mission to engage in raw conversations about mental health, suicide, and social justice. Her wealth of knowledge, shaped by her identity as a Dominican immigrant with Spanish as a first language, combined with her direct experience in the psychiatric system during moments of suicidality, brings a distinctive perspective that sets her apart. Ysabel is the founder of Estoy Aqui LLC, a consultancy agency offering innovative training programs to providers in the helping professions who want to learn about the socio-cultural aspects of mental health in Latine and Black communities. Ysabel earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Bay Path University.
