The Mission of GSWSIG is to:

  • Provide a forum for social workers with an interest in social work practice and issues in other countries around the globe
  • Facilitate collaboration and sharing of skills and experiences amongst social workers interested in developing social work capacity in under resourced countries through teaching, practice, research, advocacy and the provision of resources.

 Goals / Objectives

The goals of GSWSIG are to:
• Provide opportunities for social workers to share their experiences and expertise in working with schools of social work and social service agencies and community organizations in other countries;
• Facilitate collaboration amongst individual social workers interested in developing social work capacity in under resourced countries through teaching, practice, research, advocacy and the provision of resources;
• Improve our knowledge and skills in international social work and related issues through educational opportunities, training and e-learning so as to better inform our practice and advocacy for international projects and at home regarding
      policy and practice with immigrant populations;
• Build bridges between ourselves in the US and other social workers in other countries – between American academic programs, agency or hospital related programs and such programs in other countries.
