Yes, the State Should Increase Welfare Benefits

Take the Poll to Stand With Us

On Friday, an argument piece came out in The Boston Globe asking if the state should increase welfare benefits. NASW-MA believes all families should be able to meet their most basic needs. Right now too many families in our state are in "Deep Poverty," meaning they are struggling to survive on an income well below the federal poverty level.
PLEASE VOTE YES in the Globe's poll to support raising cash assistance benefits up to 50% of the federal poverty level! You must participate in the poll before Friday to have your vote count.
We are thankful that House Assistant Majority Leader Paul Donato is the "pro" voice on this piece. The pro argument outline what NASW-MA and our partners aim to accomplish with An Act to Lift Kids Out of Deep Poverty (SB36/HB102), co-sponsored by Senator Sal DiDomenico and Representative Marjorie Decker. This bill is a priority for our Chapter.

Please share the poll with your networks so we can show that there is overwhelming support for providing our lowest income families with benefits sufficient to meet their children’s needs.
