COVID-19 Telehealth, Advocacy Now, Facebook Live Town Hall

BULLETIN #4

In the last week we've been hard at work advocating for social workers and the clients and communities you serve. In this bulletin you will find updates related to COVID-19 and clinical practice, state and federal advocacy, virtual social and connection opportunities, web-based continuing education, and more.

I want to share some of the media attention NASW-MA and our members have received during this time:

I also want to share a statement we released today with the support and collaboration of our Racial Justice Council, condemning racism and xenophobia and recognizing the disproportionate burden coronavirus disease (COVID-19) creates for communities of color and other marginalized groups.

Clinical Update: Tele-mental Health

Our staff are hard at work each day making sure we can convey the most up-to-date information to you on the ever-evolving rules and regulations around tele-mental health in response to COVID-19. We update this page routinely as the insurance and health care landscape adapts and changes. Bookmark this page and check back frequently to learn about telehealth and its impacts on your practice during this time.

Massachusetts and Federal Advocacy

As the advocacy landscape changes rapidly to respond to COVID-19, we're advocating for solutions that make telehealth easier and help the clients and communities you serve. Here are highlights of what we're working on (and ways for you to take action!):

  • Building off of our campaign to lift families out of deep poverty, we're advocating to help provide short-term relief to families and individuals in deep poverty. Submit a letter to your state legislators here to support this advocacy.

  • We sent a letter to Governor Baker this week, asking him to create a plan to reduce the number of people detained and incarcerated to help protect their safety and well-being during this time.
