The NASW-MA Chapter is hosting its MLK Jr. Forum on Racial Justice 2024 virtually on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 (6:00 - 8:00pm EST). The Forum theme is “Achieving Healthcare Equity for BIPOC Communities” and will be focused on the inequities in access to healthcare and barriers to care facing Black, Indigenous and other people of color. Social workers will come together through this annual forum to learn strategies for engaging in advocacy to address this crisis, working together with those most impacted. In 2020, the disparate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color exposed systemic racism and deeply embedded structural inequities. We will learn about efforts to achieve healthcare equity and the challenges that lie ahead in Massachusetts.
This year, we will have a group of panelists discussing the approaches to addressing inequities in the provision of health services, disparities in outcomes, and the role of implicit biases in feeding structural inequities in our Commonwealth and our nation.
Learning objectives:
Understand barriers in access to health care for Black, Indigenous and other people of color in Massachusetts.
Learn strategies to engage in advocacy centering communities most impacted by disparities.
Learn specific approaches to addressing health disparities in social work practice across the range of settings where social workers live and work.
Earn 2 CEUs for social workers!
