With systemic inequities in our criminal legal system receiving more national attention, from policing to mass incarceration, and a long overdue light being shed on the historical, racial, and political context of this system, more lawyers and legal organizations are seeking to build interdisciplinary teams that include social workers in order to find justice for clients in an unjust system. This seminar will review the inequities in our criminal legal system, how these inequities disproportionately impact Black, Brown and POC people and communities, people at economic disadvantage, and people with chronic mental illness and substance use disorder, among many others. It will also review specific ways for social workers to advocate for their clients impacted by this system, and for systemic change. with Carrie Burke, LICSW 1.5 CEUs$15 for Members / $30 for Non-members
