What social workers need to know about SNAP now

SNAP benefits are set to expire in Massachusetts on Saturday, November 1st. Social workers will be on the front lines working with individuals and communities as they cope with this situation. NASW-MA is advocating for people in Massachusetts by urging the state to tap emergency reserves to fund SNAP if the federal administration continues to refuse to release emergency funds for this program. We also worked with our national office on a letter to congress and the president urging the release of funds to make sure our neighbors do not go hungry. This letter generated 6,635 social worker signatures across the country. We know you need resources on what to do now. Here are two websites we encourage you to review:

  • Mass.gov provides a comprehensive list of resources, food pantries, and ways to help and donate to those impacted.
  • Project Bread offers free assistance with finding food resources, understanding SNAP eligibility, accessing hot meal programs, and more.
