Join us for the 7th annual MLK Forum on Racial Justice. This year's event will be focused on what it means to be an antiracist social work practitioner. Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, author of How To Be Antiracist, states that “the only way to undo racism is to consistently identify and describe it - and then dismantle it.” As social work professionals that operate in an omnipresent white supremacist culture, we view this statement as a personal call to action. This continuing education event will address racism within the social work profession and define practices that social workers can use to dismantle white supremacy culture and racist systems within their respective workplaces. The panel will elevate the voices and perspectives of social workers with varied racial and ethic identities, while empowering all social workers to work together to dismantle racism.
Moderator: Dr. Rob Eschmann, Assistant Professor, Boston University School of Social Work; Assistant Director, BU Center for Antiracist Research
Panelists include: - Dr. Robbie Tourse, Co-author, Systemic Racism in the United States: Scaffolding as Social Construction
- Dr. Judith Willison, Associate Professor of Social Work, Bridgewater State University; Co-chair, NASW-MA Racial Justice Council
- Rebecca Jackson, MSW, Director of Community Learning & Racial Equity, Trinity Boston Foundation
- Felicia Kanu, student and member, Council for Students of Color Leadership, Smith School for Social Work
This event is FREE for all social workers and students | 2 CEUs available
