It has become clear in recent years that transgender Americans experience "disturbing patterns of mistreatment and discrimination. When it comes to the most basic elements of life, such as finding a job, having a place to live, accessing medical care, and enjoying the support of family and community" (this is according the to US Transgender Survey, 2015 which included 28,000 transgender people). Using a the socioecological model, participants will learn more about the context under which statistics like this are possible, including the history of the relationship between transgender people and various mental health fields over the past two centuries. Applying a trauma-informed skillset, participants will then apply this knowledge to more effectively work with transgender clients in their practice. Presented by Elliot Ruggles, PhD, LICSW REGISTRATION FEES Members: $15 Non-member: $30 This webinar will be hosted by the NASW-RI Chapter and CEUs have been approved by the NASW-MA Chapter
