Tuesday, September 20 (12:00 - 1:30pm EST)


This presentation will introduce social workers and other behavioral health clinicians to the role of social work within a medical setting and in pediatric oncology in particular. Opportunities and strategies for clinical intervention will be reviewed, as well as how clinical social workers can utilize skills from other disciplines such as palliative care in order to provide support to patients and families.

  • Define the role of clinical social workers within an interdisciplinary medical team.

  • Introduce the different opportunities for clinical intervention within pediatric oncology.

  • Describe how to use palliative care skills in order to support patients and families, as well as to make emotionally-difficult work sustainable.

 

Speaker bio: Laura graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Public Health from Brown University and her MSW from the University of Michigan with a focus on Integrated Health. She worked in nephrology before becoming a Clinical Social Worker in pediatric oncology at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, RI. She also works part-time at Hope Health as a hospice social worker. Laura's areas of clinical and research interest include psychosocial oncology and palliative care, as well as implementation of clinical interventions with the AYA (adolescent and young adult) population.


Registration fees: $15 for members and $35 for non-members.
